Jodhpur - the city is known as the "Sun City" for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys all the year round. It is also referred to as the "Blue City" due to the vivid blue-painted houses around the Mehrangarh Fort unfold a royal tale with it's exquisite gardens, lakes and palaces all coming together to create poetry.
Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, featuring many palaces, forts and temples, evoking a sharp contrast to landscape of the Thar desert. The extraordinary Umaid Bhawan palace hotel, with a hilltop location overlooking the "blue city" of Jodhpur, has played host to some very lavish weddings indeed. The palace is very much a modern day one. It was completed in 1944, after 15 years, making it one of the last great palaces to be built in India.
